| Environmental destruction in WAREZ development areas had escalated beyond what could be ignored: relentless logging, contaminated groundwater, and dumped radioactive waste. Greenery quickly disappeared, animals vanished, and deformed dead fish floated in polluted rivers. “Nature… is crying.” The cries of trees and birds reached the distant north. Nakoruru, an Ainu priestess, felt their desperate pleas for help growing louder each day. “Wait for me… I’m coming.” At dawn, the year’s first rera—wind—blew from the south. Spring came earlier than usual to Kamui Kotan, now without Nakoruru. |
