English guide to the saved pages

These are research notes, written to keep track of evidence. They're precise but dense. The AW-NET and game pages tell the same story in plainer language.

Detailed research notes. Quoted source text may be machine-translated.

English explanations of terms and messages used on the AW-NET website.

Registration messages reported by an actual user

Reported Japanese text English translation
お使いの機種は現在対応していません Your phone model is currently unsupported.
入会するには、携帯からのアクセスで発行されたIDが必要です Registration requires an ID issued through mobile access.

The writer reports these messages on 5 August 2004, after using a newly bought NEOWAVE card. These are the writer's transcription, not an independently recovered screenshot or exact server-response string. Source diary · preserved Japanese text

These translations preserve distinctions relevant to the recreation. In particular, Network competition in a horse-racing interface does not establish internet matches for Isuka, NEOWAVE or Battle Coliseum. Live battle broadcast is a video-section label: the period guide supports numbered public videos but does not establish live streaming. Period Battle Coliseum guide

Where to read the evidence in English

  • Membership route, fees and compatibility: registration evidence and the history overview; Japanese community report adds the failed August 2004 signup and inferred March 2005 handset-support date.
  • Isuka record fields: Japanese community report explains the player-authored July 2004 table and what its yellow highlighting means. It is not an authenticated website screenshot.
  • Battle Coliseum purchases, videos and shop calendar: Japanese community report explains the July–September 2005 diaries, publisher notices and forum posts, with source/date distinctions.
  • NEOWAVE and NeoGeo Battle Coliseum forums: the report summarizes relevant dated posts and contradictions. It does not turn anonymous claims into verified service rules.
  • Images: the searchable side-by-side gallery records Japanese text, English equivalents and unreadable areas for all 145 recovered original-domain images, 12 new photographs, and four embedded poster rasters.
  • Flyers and command sheets: the printed-material guide gives English explanations and terminology, with direct links to untouched PDFs and their modern preview renderings.

Phone rewards and a recovered mobile response

Japanese English / distinction
待受画面 / 待受画像 Phone standby screen image / wallpaper
着信メロディ / 着メロ Ringtone melody
ギルティゴング Guilty Gong; point-based content voting
レースくじ Race lottery; Victory Furlong rewards were in-game items
非対応端末です Your handset is not supported.

The last label comes from the 25 November 2003 mobile.awnet.jp response titled AW GGX Mobile — AW GGX Mobile. Its accompanying message says this service cannot be used on the handset model. A final inventory audit also recovered an earlier 21 September 2003 response at the main AW-NET root carrying the same service name and unsupported-handset explanation. This dates the preserved response, not public enrollment or commercial launch. These are recovered HTML responses, not mobile screenshots, account-enrollment forms or download catalogs. November capture · November Japanese text · September capture · September Japanese text

The 29 August 2003 GGX Mobile report announces a 1 September launch, 150 monthly points, wallpaper/ringtone downloads and a 504i card-battle app. AW-NET's own FAQ instead documents 100 monthly shared points. The services are associated in AW-NET's news and mobile response, but their balance/subscription migration is unresolved. The new game report retains those separate dated policies.

New period magazine reward terminology

The NeoGeo Battle Coliseum publisher and guidebook follow-up adds English service notes from all six preserved developer Q&A archives and the July 27, 2005 launch release. The latter explicitly distinguishes card-insertion access to Athena/Mars People from the general membership services. The guidebook bibliography is verified through National Diet Library and publisher-supplied records; the complete public Master Guide was subsequently recovered and reviewed below.

The verified Arcadia guide supplies original scans and dated English explanations. NEOWAVE's November 2004 service table labels Mobile phone wallpaper purchase as buy a mobile standby wallpaper, 15 shared points each, and mobile ringtone purchase as buy a mobile ringtone melody, 30 each. Another colour purchase means buy an alternate colour, 600 each; additional character purchase means buy an additional character, 3,000 each in the Kim/Vanessa/Ramon feature. These are dated NEOWAVE prices, not every game's universal tariff.

The September 2004 album campaign's Unique ID means unique ID: enter the physical card album's ID on AW-NET to receive a special phone wallpaper. This is a reward code, distinct from an AW-card access code or PC AWID.

A late-service subscriber discussion

SNK WORLD-i thread mirror, posts 514–518, 27 July 2006: a poster asks whether more AW-NET games will appear, says Samurai Shodown Tenkaichi was unsupported, and considers canceling after no further announcements. They correct their initial AM-NET typo to AW-NET. A respondent agrees and wishes Jingi Storm would support it. Another says card-reader-equipped cabinets are disappearing, though ordinary Atomiswave games remain. Post 529 on 28 July says the poster will cancel. These are anonymous player reactions, not official availability statistics.

Later speculation about “NEOWAVE 2” is not evidence that such a service title released.

Recovered guidebook and alternate-archive evidence

The complete public NeoGeo Battle Coliseum Master Guide now supplies illustrated mobile/card enrollment instructions, PC member channels, shop prices, shared-point rules, ranking prizes and 312 purchased palette references. The ordinary combat glossary’s “guard point” is unrelated to shared AW currency.

The alternate-archive and fan-directory audit records Arquivo queries and the dated Hige Club directory lead. The twenty-image promotional gallery preserves overseas artwork and hardware context; these scans are distinct from AW-NET website assets and purchased mobile content. Operator-document notes cover the optional network-setting behavior without treating the export manuals as a Japanese AW-NET installation guide.

Additional Japanese reviews and May 2005 show report

The 20 May 2005 Sega private-show report, preserved text, says inserting a purchased AW card adds Athena and Mars People to NeoGeo Battle Coliseum's character select; membership adds player-name registration and level-dependent titles. This is a prelaunch report with summer operation planned, separately corroborated by the later publisher release.

Kakuge's undated NEOWAVE review, preserved text, recalls card-saved results, point purchases of hidden fighters/colours, Fight Money rankings and ring contests. It says KOF XI lacked network support. The old statement that NEOWAVE was the only network-enabled arcade KOF is time-dependent commentary, not a current franchise fact. “Network functions” here does not independently prove remote human fighting.

Kakuseix's undated NeoGeo Battle Coliseum review, preserved text, describes card-based name/title customisation, point-funded fighter/alternate-colour purchases and saved results. It notes November 2006 closure and subsequent offline operation. The review page also covers much later games; no common publication date is assigned to every section.

Ishikawa's Atomiswave collection post, preserved text, has a visible entry footer dated 21 January 2020. The collector excludes Kintaro and Victory Furlong from their collection because AW-NET had ended, describing them as online-only. This is an attributed collecting decision, not proof the cabinets cannot start offline: AW-NET's actual FAQ explicitly describes Kintaro offline play and its restrictions. No equivalent Victory Furlong offline table has been recovered.

The three late-2003 Sammy applications have separate selected English technical readings and original diagram previews. Their service attribution is unverified; they do not supply authentic successful mobile billing forms or the missing phone reward files.

Dated Game Watch news-digest follow-up, 9 October

Selected notices with English reading distinguishes 17 title/service matches, including home releases and unrelated Zoids titles. The 27 October 2004 notice corroborates NEOWAVE Fight Money Ranking dates; the 10 November notice corroborates ring-event dates. The 22 October notice retains the character placeholder ???? and a planned 25 October unlock without guessing its identity. The initial HTML requests failed, but one subsequent attempt recovered all three. The October and December originals explicitly state: “AW-NET service for Guilty Gear Isuka will end on 30 November 2006,” with a details link to AW-NET. The September 2 response has no notice. Original responses and English reading. Keep the established 30 November service closure date and this reporting date separate.

The 8 January 2004 editorial describes AW-NET as a common-card approach and advocates broader industry standardization. It does not specify deployed card encoding or prove every Sammy game supported the service.

Retrospective wallpaper ambiguity

Its arcade paragraph describes card records/ranks and point purchases of EX characters and SP colours. Later hidden-element notes call Kai/I-No/Dizzy additions at survival levels 400/600/800 “ranking-display wallpapers.” These are in-game display unlocks in a page mixing arcade and home releases, not identified phone downloads. The commercial guide remains the stronger feature source. Preserved Japanese text.
